Did you know that the Dignity of Students Act (DASA) takes effect on July 1st, 2012?
DASA is meant to affect the entire school by creating not just new rules, but a new climate that would make students feel safe and comfortable while at school by creating a safe and supportive environment.
Your school district is responsible for appointing one staff member per school as a Dignity Act coordinator who must be thoroughly trained to handle human relations.
The school community does not just include students and teachers, but includes any and all persons who work within the school district including:
- transportation staff
- parents and families
- nurses, custodial staff
- PTA members
- parent coordinators
- administrators
- community organizations.
DASA implements the use of restorative approaches in dealing with incidents/harassment and wants schools to understand that every moment is a “teachable moment”.
Restorative Solutions has created a school climate to incorporate the values and ideals of DASA, that can be utilized by your school to help you prepare to comply with DASA during this upcoming school year.
